Impressive "Living Roof" at New Academy of Sciences Museum

An “integrated regenerative architecture” is what the new roof garden is referred to. The new California Academy of Sciences Museum in Golden Gate Park will be a scientific showcase of urban sustainability. There will be a 2.5 acre “living roof” with 1.7 million native plants and nine species. A design to enhance water and energy conservation is a multilayered roof surface that protects the building as well as serves as a substrate for the plants. There are rounded hills on the rooftop to draw cool air and collect rainwater. This will be a very impressive design that takes many green building techniques to maximize natural energy and water efficiency. The new Academy of Sciences Museum in San Francisco is scheduled to open in October 2008 and will definitely be worth checking out.
